Because of the drought this year, the amount of corn and soybeans being produced has declined. We use those products in things like gas or shampoo and conditioner. With the shortage of corn and soybeans, prices on a lot of grocery items will go up and stay up until an efficient amount of corn and beans are produced.

Because of the summer drought, we have had to spend more money on watering crops. As a town with a big market of farming, it affects us greatly because when the water bill gets higher, as a consumer, the price of produce goes up for us.

Because of the drought that has happened this summer, the major crops will not all make it which will lead to less corn and soybeans being sold. It will increase the prices on these produce because they have a high demand. It could also affect the amounts and prices of pumpkins, lolliepops which use corn syrup, and mayonnaise which use soybeans oil. It will not change back to a reasonable price until the produce retain their original production rate.

This year the drought has forced extreme amounts of stress on farmers to salvage what they can of their money making crops, but farmers are not the only ones that have something to worry about. With the decrease of the production rate of corn and soy beans, the price of these items will be significantly higher. Sources say that the price of corn could rise from 10% because of the length of the drought. Also, items that contain high fructose corn syrup such as cereal, yogurt, soda, breads, and salad dressings may also see a rise in price. This will cause consumers to spend more money at the grocery store than they expected.

The drought this summer will have a major effect on crops in the state. It also has a major effect on the waterways all over the state of Illinois. The strain on the crops will make prices increase in most of the stores.

Because of the drought this year the amount of many major crops will be very low, which will lead to the prices of those products going up. Which then will cause the products made by those products to go up in price and so on and so forth. So overall consumers are going to have to spend more on products because demand is high but supply is low.

Due to the severely dry weather the US has experienced over the summer term, many crops have failed to reach maturity. Yet, farmers will bring in the succesful yield and push to sell it at an elevated price in order to pay for the year's work. We will see the higher prices in the affected crop items because there is not as much available to consumers.

The summer drought has impacted us as consumers in a bad way. The drought caused crops to not grow as well and as many. This drop in crop growth causes the prices for those crops to rise as there is not as much as there would normally be. This is hurting us financially as consumers but is also hurting farmers because they will make less money off their crops.

When talking to a farmer i know, he said this year has been one of the worst years for his crops. I can tell really easily when driving along side a field that the crops are mostly dead, and the ones that are alive are very short. Farmers need to at least break even so they raise the price a lot on their crops. This hurts us because we can't eat healthy vegetables unless paying a large amount. Overall, the drought is hurting the farmers and consumers

The drought has effected the prices as well as farmers, consumers, and major companies. When there isn't a large supply of crops, the crops become a high demand. Almost everything gets a price raise because the crops are most likely to be in the ingredients. This year prices will be way up, but as the demand for things such as corn or soybeans drop the prices will return to a some what reasonable price.

The drought has hurt us as consumers because with little rain fall it is severely hurt the corn crop, especially in the Midwest. There will be less corn this year, which has already driven the price of corn up. Nearly every food product we Americans consume, contains corn in one form or another!

the drought has hurt us as consumers because the crops have been hard to grow so the price of vegtables have grown up. so we have to pay more out of our pockets for simple food.plus we use theese things for gasoline so that causes gas to go up so the drought has just made everything more expensive in a time were some people dont got the money to pay the extra money

The drought this year has effected a lot of consumers in a big way. Not only has it made a huge impact on our crops but on everything else too. Since te corn is not growing like its suppose to the prices of products we need corn

For have gone up too. Even gas prices go up becuse we new the ethanol from corn. And when gas goes up everything also goes up because it costs more to ship products to stores/ farms etc.
Kylie Severson

When the gas prices went up everything else started going up. With no rain this summer we have barley any corn so their goes the corn. And with no rain the crops haven't grown so those prices go therefore leading to the prices of our food.

Beacuse of the drought, the price of crop will go up. Farmers cant depend on the rain to water the crops, they have to find a way to transport water to there fields so the crops don't dry out.

Due to the drought this year, many crops are suffering. This lack of rain will make the crops, such as corn and soybeans, not grow. With the crops not growing as well this means there will be a raise in prices because the farmers still need to make money which makes the consumers have to pay more.

The drought this year has hurt us as consumers because we lost a lot of agriculture products such as corn and soy beans. Because these things were lost the cost of them has gone up. We also have been needing to conserve our water supply. The farmers had to use more water due to the drought which caused them to lose more money.

The drought this summer has hurt the farmers and consumers because the crops got dried out and did not produce that much. Also because we lost so much crop the prices of them have gone up and made the gas prices go up.

The drought this summer has affected us, as consumers in many ways. First, agriculture had a huge blow from the lack of water, so many crops died or the farmers spent a lot of money using extra water to fufill the plants' needs. Second, gas prices shot up because corn, ethanol, was becoming scarce; so the gas prices raised. And third, the crop prices have risen and that affects a lot of consumers since we either go without, or feel the emptiness in our wallets.
Paige Ashworth
8/28/2012 09:11:44 am
When we experience a drought, the farmers crops will suffer. Due to damaged crops, there is a shorter supply of produce and food sources for livestock. Which in turn, raises prices to the consumer for meat products, produce, dairy, ethanol, etc.
Ashley Maubach
8/28/2012 09:38:20 am
Due to the drought this summer corn and soy beans did not grow as well as usual. This means that what did grow will be a lot more expensive than it is typically, and most or all of the products that are made with these crops will walk cost more.

It's no doubt that the summer drought has hurt farmers in our local area and all across the Midwest. The crops mostly affected by this drought are corn and soybean. These crops not only feed people, but animals are also dependent on corn-based food. Therefore, dairy and meat products are also projected to increase in supermarkets. As consumers, we are now forced to pay the price for the summer drought.

The drought not only hurt the farmers and their crops, but any family with a garden as well. Everyone with a lawn noticed the crunchy state of the grass, which was not pleasant for the summer, but also people with gardens, from flowers to tomatoes, were hurt. Many people weren't able to eat fresh vegetables from their garden due to the drought. This hurt anyone participating in farmers markets as well because they couldn't produce as much product, leading to less profiting for themselves.

The drought will obviously cause crops to die, which causes problems for everybody. It will make it harder for farmers because they will have less produce and it will cause prices for the crops to rise, which will hurt the consumers. It might hurt the animals too if the farmer reduces the amount of food they get, because of the low quantity of crops.
Carly Williamson
8/28/2012 11:31:25 am
The drought has caused the crops to wither and die. The crops that survived were smaller than usual. Prices for products that use corn such as gas and food rose quite a few cents. Produce prices also rose substantially. The bean crop did better than corn because water is not as important during fertilization of beans as it is for corn.

The summer drought has hurt us as consumers by drying out parts of the Mississippi River not allowing barges up making gas and grain prices rise. The summer drought is also going to make the price of corn go up do to stalks not making kernels. These affect consumers by making us pay more for the products we need.

This summer has been very tough on farmers and has raised the prices on corn and other vegetables. This does not only affect the people who eat it, but also to feed animals. The hard times to crop farmers has made it hard for livestock farmers. This makes the price of vegetables, meats, eggs, and dairy rise.

The drought has caused corn and bean prices to go up and make farmers to send there cattle to slaghter. So beef and meet products are low in price right now but next year the prices on beef and other meat products with be high next year because they were all used this year and to feed them will b more expensive because of the lack of corn, beans and other farming goods that were effected by the drought.
Madeline Sandgren

The drought has caused the crops to wither and die or not produce as much corn and soybeans like it usually does. Without these crops, livestock cannot be fed. The prices of the crops will go up because of high demand and low resources.
Lauren Severson
8/29/2012 09:44:43 am
The price of corn, soybeans, and other crops have gone up to compensate for the lost crops. The price of crops has to be raised to compensate, so that farmers can still pay for machinery, equipment, seed, fertilization, food for their animals and families, fuel, labor, land, etc. The prices of corn and soybeans have come close to doubling in comparison to the last several years, this ultimately has effects on consumer.

The summer drought has hurt us by giving us little rainfall. The rainfall has cause the corn/soybeans to not produce as much. The farmers have a smaller crop yield this year, so that means less profit for the farmers and less corn/soybeans in the store for the consumers to buy.

My dad is a farmer, and we will be farming into September, which is extremely late for the corn crop. In some low spots we have been fortunate, but for the most part it has just been an awful summer. The income will not be as great and on top of that gas prices will rise because of the lack of ingredients to make ethanol.

This drought this year has hurt farmers both locally and across the nation. Lower production rates of agricultural products such as corn and soy beans will cause prices to rise in the upcoming months as farmers try to make ends meet. Corn-based, dairy, and meat products are projected to rise as much as ten percent. Because of the increase of prices at the store, consumers will have to sacrifice certain commodities in order to purchase the necessities farmers produce.

This years drought is taking a huge toll on crops across the Midwest. The prices of corn and soybeans are extremely high which effects us in multiple ways. Livestock food is mostly corn based, so its prices have gone up substantially. This makes it much more expensive to produce all meat, eggs, and countless other animal products we use everyday. Ethanol is also more expensive, and because fuel companies are required to add a certain amount of ethanol to their gasoline, gas prices are shooting up as well. Almost everything we buy as consumers is more expensive because of the drought.

This years drought in the summer was a crucial time for farmers. This is how they make their money by farming. This summer there was a small amount of rain. This means our products we purchase like eggs, milk, beans, corn, and etc will increase in price tremendously. The farmers animals also need to have food. Their amounts of food were shorten because of only a limited amount of crops will be able to be picked. With the shortage of water, that is also a large amount of pesticides can encounter the crops also.

This summer drought was terrible. The prices of corn and soy beans sky rocketed because we did not have adequate rainfall for them to thrive, therefore not making them as plentiful which causes the farmers and stores to raise their prices.
Sarah Kerr

Lower production of crops will cause higher prices next year because all the products will be used up by then. Farming will also be happening at a later month which is unusual and inconvenient for farmers.

Because of the drought most of the crops in the Midwest have been hurt. Without water they die, and with few living crops prices on these crops get higher. With higher prices fewer consumers will make purchases and therefor it will hurt the economy.

The drought this summer has caused a major effect to farmers, and their crops. Many crops are not going to be able to be harvest. Gas prices have gone up. And water levels of rivers dropping caused food prices to go up also due to barge traffic.

The drought has definitely hurt the production of crops. The first thing that I think of is corn, the prices will increase because there is not enough corn. Also, the price of beef will increase because of the shortage of corn, and there will not be enough for the livestock to eat. Therefore the prices of beef will go up.

This summer's drought has hit the agricultural industry hard. According to the Department of Agriculture, 78% of corn is in a drought-impacted condition, as well as 77% of corn. In addition, the cost of soybeans is at an all-time high at $17 a bushel. Food will not be only thing affected though. 25% of the corn crop is used for ethanol, so gas prices may also feel the pain of the drought. When there is less supply in the market, as is the case right now, prices are bound to be higher for retailers and the consumers they sell to.

The drought has affected the prices of many things such as crops. The particular crops affected in our area are corn and soybeans. Because of the drought the farmers made less money for the economy affecting businesses other than just the farming industry. The increase in the price of crops also may have caused consumers to not buy those particular foods from their grocery store which affects the profits of the grocery store. Also, with the drought less ethanol has been produced and this has caused the price of gas to go up which basically affects every person who drives in the united states

During the drought in the midwest this summer, crops were affected. The main affected crops were corn and soybeans. These crops are used to make many goods. With a shortage of these crops the amount of goods produced will decrease. This will also make the prices of these goods increase until the damage by the drought is repaired eventually.

The Summer drought has hurt us as consumers because the foods grown on farms that we eat day-to-day, are wilting. For farmers to make up for the lost money with these plants, the prices go up. Not only are crops used for food, but corn is being used to produce ethanol to power specific vehicle types. Since these crops are costing the farmers more to maintain, ethanol prices are rising as well.
Tim Gile

Because of the drought this year, farmers are only getting half of their usual yield of corn and soybeans or less. This not only drives the price of these products up, it also raises the prices of anything made from them. It hurts the farmers directly and also effects every consumer.
Tim Gile

The drought this has affected most importantly the growth of corn and soybeans throughout the Illinois and the Midwest region. Due to the uncommon lack of growth, it is more difficult for farmers to make profit as well as the growth of prices from corn based products.

Because of the drought this year, crops like corn and soybeans will have a harder time growing. It will cost more to maintain the crops which will cause the prices of the things they make to go up. Drought has a huge effect on us as consumers in todays day and age. Drought means that theres no rain and we have no water, therefore crops cannot grow and thus they end up dying or never growing to begin with. Us as consumers buy these products and since there is a shortage in the crops the prices would either be raised due to farmers not making enough money and then everyone gets affected by it from the simple fact that it hasnt rained enough. In order to stop this we need to start more irrigation.

As consumers, the drought has effected us in a bad way. This years crops yield will be substantially lower due to the lack of rain. This will now force the farmers to raise the price on corn. These days with just about everything that is dependent on corn, will cause the prices of those goods to rise, and we will have to pay more for every day essentials.

The drought caused crops to grow inefficiently which then made it harder for producers to make enough money, because of this, they ha to raise prices on certain goods such as corn, beans, & many other things that are grown on farms. Consumers who buy these products have to pay a larger amount for the goods they want which causes them to be shorter on cash.

Due to the summer drought this year crops such as corn and soybeans have not been able to grow as efficiently. Thus making it so less of the crop is produced as in a normal year without a drought. This causes the prices of those crops to go up. And when prices go up it affects every consumer because they will not be able to consume as much of that product they usually do without spending more money. Comments are closed.
